The Magnes is excited to welcome the Jerusalem-born musician, artistic director, and community organizer, Yair Harel to its weekly lunchtime PopUp Exhibition Series. His performance will inaugurate his residency at The Magnes this Fall.
Yair Harel will perform a selection of Hebrew liturgical poems (piyyutim) about the sounding of the shofar horn, according to the traditions of the global diaspora. His performance will be complemented by a display of rare shofar horns from The Magnes Collection.
Yair Harel is the artistic director of the critically-acclaimed New Jerusalem Orchestra and the founder and editor-in-chief of An Invitation to Piyut, a site dedicated to the study and preservation of the piyut, which are Jewish liturgical poems. His residency at The Magnes is supported by the Israel Institute.
About the PopUp Exhibition Series
Each week, UC Berkeley faculty and students, visiting artists and other notable guests present brief lectures focused on selected treasures from the The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life. One speaker and one object at the time, these “flash” exhibitions include the opportunity to view the art and artifacts discussed intimately and up close.
Bring your own lunch, enjoy complimentary refreshments, and take part in an exciting learning program, free and open to the public. Close-up view of collections included.
